We Are Opening A Bar In Houston!
August 29, 2008
Ok,
Of course, there will be cocktails as well. This time, however, the cocktails will receive the same care they receive at the nation’s best cocktails bars. We will have several types of ice, an enormous supply of unique spirits, the best bartenders in the city, and a cocktail list that actively seeks to banish the apple martini forever from
In addition to great cocktails, Anvil will have a carefully stocked wine cellar built in an old loft positioned over the bar. Our beer list will include the best microbrews in the country, and we will offer alternative taps at all times that will change every week. We want Anvil to be a comfortable, but intriguing space that invites people to enjoy their time with friends while experiencing the joys of a good drink. What else could you ever ask for?
If you have any questions about Anvil, please feel free to contact me. I hope to see you sitting at our bar soon.

Congratulations! We cannot wait to get to Houston to see/taste for ourselves!
you gonna do food?
Congrats on getting Anvil started! That sounds like everything I’d want a bar to be.
Woooooo! Every time I come in I get more excited about the new place. Good luck on getting that paint off the brick. Enjoyed my drinks tonight as always.

I am so so happy for you guys!! And, of course, can’t wait until it opens. Houston has been needing this for so long and you, Kevin and Morgan are the perfect trifecta to do so!
CHEERS
will you guys have the vanishing act? puh-lease?
As a cocktail fanatic I can only say “hoo-rah”. I am proud to feel a part to something historical in this town. You rock guys! Go for it!!
Congratulations Bobby! I know this is something you have been waiting a long time for. I know it will be a Republic hang out for sure! Can’t wait to help out with the grand opening and anything else you guys need. You know what reps to call! Have a great holiday weekend!
Congrats! its wonderful to see someone make a dream come true.
So exciting! Congrats on the new space, a worthy home for you to create your incredible cocktails, and for us, your adoring fans, to enjoy them!
Congrats! Looking forward to trying it out.
Congratulations and many successes to you all.
Wow! Where Sliders and Daquiri Factory used to be? Anvil will definitely be an upgrade & a welcome addition to my ‘hood. I can walk on over. Good luck! I’m looking forward to the new bar in Montrose.
Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement. I can’t tell you how excited we are, and I am looking forward to being able to serve each of you at our bar in the future. When I am not bartending at Beavers, I am doing construction work at Anvil, and since we are doing the renovations ourselves a lot of time is available to think about everything I want the bar to be.
In response to some of the questions, yes, Randy, we will have food. We plan to have cheese plates, meats, sandwiches, pizzas, and desserts. So, not a full kitchen, but also a lot more than your average wine bars. I’m glad to see you taking notice of our efforts. I’d like to see a lot of industry types at Anvil when we open, and I hope that our late hours provide an option for those motivated by creativity and dynamic flavors. I love bartending for chefs because they always provide such and interesting perspective that bridges the gap between my bartending experience and my small understanding of the world of food. Thanks for the support.
Katherine, yes I will be able to make that drink for you. I have even made effort to make sure we will have a constant supply of local heights honey when we open.
Again, thanks to everyone. I hope you all know that this place is only happening because of your ongoing support.
if yall need any help with the menu and i would be happy to help out…
Congratulations Bobby! As a longtime Sazerac fan and now, thanks to you, a Negroni (er, Duboni) afficionado, I can’t wait. Plus I work near the Anvil location…need to do some liver strength training between now and Novemeber!
Best,
Matt
Congratulations, gents. David and I are looking forward to the opening and the magic!!
Robert, Morgan, congratulations. Anvil sounds like a great place for my wife and I to stop by in Houston on the way to New Orleans next summer.
Oh, and “several different shapes of ice?” Love it!
Congrats again
Keith
Sounds awesome. Great cocktails & great beer in one place. I really hope that Saint Arnold an be a part of it.
Cheers!
PS Are you going to be posting pictures as you go through the renovation process?
Trusted Austinites speak highly of you, and I’m sad I probably won’t get to sample your wares at Beavers, but the next time I’m in Houston, I’ll belly up to the bar at the new joint.
Good luck. And tell me how I can talk owners into better ice. Please?
Thanks again to everyone for the support. We are making steady progress and with a little extra work should be back on track after Ike. I hope everyone has a chance to come by at some point, even those of you from the likes of Seattle.
Lennie, we definitely want to have a strong relationship with our local brews, and would love to work with St. Arnold’s to bring in some great beer. I’ll send you an email soon and see how we can work things out.
Bill, trusted Austinites speak highly of you too. I want to try and come up there and sit at your bar sometime in the next month or so, just to get away for a day. I hope you can come down to Houston when we open or around then. I’m sure we will meet in the future at some point; til then keep pushing good cocktails in Austin.
Given that I’m in Houston every 3-4 months to visit my sister’s family, and watch my niece and nephew grow up, this is very good news for me too!
The only catch is that it’s 23.8 miles from my sister’s house, but I’ll make it work.
I’m coming for a long weekend this Friday and probably won’t be back until February, but sounds like y’all’ll be ready for me to come get some drinks by then. Woo!
Best of luck with the opening!
Bobby, my boyfriend David and I met you and Kevin through David Alan a few months ago. We are SO excited about the Anvil! What is the opening going to be like? Open to the public? Be prepared to see a lot of us!
Being a cocktail geek living in the Sugar Land area, hearing word that a cocktail bar opening within driving distance is music to my ears- keep us posted!
Chuck, it was nice to meet you at Tales this year. It will be great to have you come down to Houston and make cocktails for an expert. I hope to see you soon.
Stephanie, thanks for the support. We are planning on doing a test run opening before a grand opening a week later. Put your email address into the box on the top right corner of this page and we”ll make sure you get an invite. Looking forward to making you guys cocktails.
Joe, Kevin and I both have family who live in the Sugar Land area, and we know how hard it can be to drive into town for a drink. So, thanks for the support from outside the loop. I hope we can make the drive worth it for you.
Bobby, when I was in town a few weeks ago I went looking for your future new place and discovered, to my delight (unless I got my Houston directions wrong) that it’s a block from one of my favorite restaurants in Houston, Hugo’s. Now that I know right where it is, it’ll be a cinch to get there. Yeah you rite!
Chuck - great; yeah we are right down the street from Hugo’s, which is just as exciting for me. I love Hugo’s. Anywhere you can get food that good and some Del Maguey Chichicapa mezcal is a winner in my book. Its like a two minute walk from us, so I have a feeling that I will be hitting them up before I come to work more often than I should.
Bobby and Kevin,
Long time no see - we’re having withdrawal, are we getting close?
See you soon,
Alison and Blaine
We are getting close. I should have a more official opening date very soon and will be sure to let you know. We miss you guys and can’t wait to get back to bartending.
ahhhhhh, sooooooo thirsty!! ahhhhggggg.
Losing strength. Must hang on. Grown men don’t cry.
can’t fucking wait til you open… i don’t drink cocktails unless they’re particularly fantastic… and I know you guys will deliver. Awesome concept. Really, you don’t understand how much I’m looking forward to your opening. I demand a proper Negroni!!!!!!!!!! Finally someone’s around to fit that bill.
When, when, when????????
We recently found Justin at Textile. He is the most amazing bartendar, by far, in Houston. His drinks are the most creative and utterly unique I’ve ever had. Don’t you dare order “the usual” when you are at Justin’s bar. Tell him generally what you like and let him surprise you with something you’d never have dreamed up on your own. What a difference I bartendar could make! I had no idea!
Had his cocktails. Even his Negroni is good.
Guys, this is incredible, and I wish you well, even if from far away.
I had the pleasure of sitting across from you and Kevin one night at Beaver’s; you guys have the right stuff. You understand.
Love the name — the best bars are indeed refuges, not in the sense of the alcohol-induced haze, but refuges in the sense that they are magical pockets of earth where things are that critical bit better, where things are as good as they really can be, where, for a short time, our world and ourselves are as we would hope they might be.
If I make it back to Houston, you guys are my only stop.
Best,
Frank (that crazy guy who was showing you pictures of drinks on his laptop a year or so ago)
I am really looking forward to coming. Congrats!
i cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 love you boys like a fat kid loves cake
After your party at Poison girl I’m hooked. Any updates now that it’s January???? You have made me addicted to whiskey so please feed me.
I am so happy for you Stevo . . . and for your business partners. I remember that dinner we had the last time I was in town and his idea was just a glimmer in your eye. i wish i could be there for the grand opening,
What’s the status gents? I haven’t had a good cocktail in almost 5 mos and have been going thru campari w/drawl to boot (as I dont kno how to mix it properly). Please help!
It’s coming as quick as possible; should be very soon. I will keep everyone posted; no one can tolerate the wait less than us. Oh to serve cocktail and not do construction…
Congrats! I wish you guys many good years at 1424b Westheimer! I had 22 great years of service to Houston in that location… The best parties ever! You guys have Anvil looking great! I can’t wait to see your creative touch and to taste dynamic flavors in cocktails! Houston look out ! Good Luck!
Ive heard Anvil is open and it was worth the wait. I’m going this weekend and can’t wait to taste the drinks!
I am going to meet a gang there Friday night for happy hour! Can’t wait after all the good things I have heard about the place!
Stopped by May 18, late, jet-lagged after trip back from Rome. Fantastic place, fantastic drinks, fantastic staff. Kudos all around.
